Spring 2008 Class & Public Event Schedule:
Summer Dance Camps ~ Tuesday Evening Series ~ June 24 to August 19, 2008
Note: All Hedy classes this summer are located at All Saints Episcopal Church at 555 Waverley Street, Palo Alto, CA 94301 (corner of Waverley and Hamilton in downtown Palo Alto), which is an air-conditioned venue. Friday daytime classes will resume at Cubberley Auditorium, for the Autumn 08 quarter, on 9/12/08.
Classic line dances and dances of
exceptional merit taught by Palo Alto’s Hedy McAdams, internationally
award-winning choreographer/teacher, with Rick Evenskaas, popular Bay Area
instructor noted for his ability to instill poise, confidence, and skill.
Curriculum includes classic line
dances ("Classics" are dances so well choreographed that they
continue to be tuaght and danced at line dance venues locally and around the
world!) as well as the best-loved couples dances at ballroom, country, latin, and zydeco venues, such as Texas
Two-Step, West Coast Swing, Night-Club Two-Step, Salsa, Waltz, and more.
Both line dances and couples
classes are presented in a precise way in an environment designed to relax
students and open them to learning the heart of each dance, rather than
mechanical techniques.
Section A - Basics/Beginning Line Dance: Focuses on beginners
and experienced dancers who want to review or warm-up for intermediate
class. Great for absolute beginners who
are looking for a pleasurable way to build motor-skill coordination (balance,
flexibility, strength and endurance) and memory skills, as well as for
returning students who want to review or refresh basic technique and
patterns. This section features easier
dances taught at a more leisurely pace, in Hedy's precise style. Practice between classes is helpful, but not
mandatory. This class will include basic lead-and-follow skills, as well.
Section B - Intermediate Line Dance: Focuses on dancers
who want more challenge, attention to styling, and more intense mind/body
workout. Skill level: Advanced beginning to mid-intermediate line
dances. This section features more
complex line dance classics taught at a faster pace, with continued attention
to styling details. Practice between
classes is recommended.
Section C - Intermediate/Advanced Couples Semi-Privates This class will be taught by two teachers: Hedy and Rick Evenskaas. The size of this class is limited to 8 dancers who are willing to (a) commit to a minimum of 4 summer classes and (b) practice a minimum of 3 hours per week between classes.
